The School of Foreign Languages of South China University of Technology actively responds to the national strategic call to actively participate in the reform of the global governance system. Relying on the locational advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the solid foundation of a Double First-Class Class A university, it has established the Department of International Organizations and Global Governance. Guided by the Outline of the Plan for Building a Strong Education Nation (2024–2035), the Department has built a four-in-one cultivation mechanism of university think tank + practice base + research center + teaching department, creating a composite talent cultivation system with distinctive science and engineering characteristics and a high degree of internationalization.
The Department is committed to cultivating high-quality talents who are well-versed in international rules, possess practical English-French bilingual and second foreign language abilities, are familiar with international cooperation norms, have a command of science and engineering knowledge, and possess cross-cultural leadership skills. The curriculum system covers core courses in international relations, international law, international politics, and global governance, and also establishes distinctive technology + governance modules such as artificial intelligence and technology governance, sustainable development, data governance, and climate change, forming an interdisciplinary teaching system that integrates humanities and engineering.
The Department has an internationalized, interdisciplinary high-level teaching team, and all faculty members hold doctoral degrees and have experience in overseas advanced studies or international scientific research cooperation. Relying on platforms such as the Ministry of Education's Innovation Practice Base for High-Level Internationalized Talent Cultivation, the Indian Ocean Island Countries Research Center of South China University of Technology, and the Center for Country and Area Studies, the Department has established deep cooperation with institutions such as UNESCO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, and the World Intellectual Property Organization, building an internationalized learning system covering practical training, scientific research, courses, and projects, with practical course credits accounting for 17%.
With the cultivation model of value guidance, think-tank driven, science and engineering empowerment, and practice orientation, the Department is based in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and serves national strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the Global Development Initiative. It works with multiple partners to jointly build brand projects such as United Nations practical training bases, international organization youth talent workshops, and Model United Nations conferences, comprehensively enhancing students' competence for international organizations and practical capabilities in global governance.
Looking to the future, the Department of International Organizations and Global Governance will continue to deepen collaborative cooperation with international organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and multinational enterprises, regularly hold international governance forums and academic seminars, expand students' international vision and career paths, and cultivate composite high-end talents with both a sense of national commitment, a global vision, and professional competence, contributing SCUT wisdom and Chinese solutions to the nation's participation in the reform and construction of the global governance system.
